Good Wednesday Morning,

Thank you to all of you who came to the party-it was fun having you there. My favorite part was having you there! I will miss seeing all of you every week, but will not forget you. I am collecting pictures of the practices and performances and will be arranging these into a photo album. If you do have any that you want to share with me, please send them along as I would love to have them.

I hope that you all got a program and a badge to have as keepsakes. If you did not get one of these, come see me.

I hope that all of you found this a fun thing to do even through all the work. You showed that you are able to make commitments stick. Doing so makes you honorable, dependable and courageous. What wonderful traits. I hope you all felt the magic of the lights and Break a leg in all you ever do in the future. I miss you all already.

Good Monday Morning,

WOW! What a magical three nights of performing. You were fantastic. You deserved all the praise I heard from your parents and friends. Way to go. You rock!

Today we have the last 2 performances for the year(tears). When you arrive at school, go backstage to get ready. Attendance will be taken there. Performance times are 8:30 and 12:30. If you can, come in with makeup and hair done. Michelle will not be there to help out today, so help each others as you have been.

I do believe you have now experienced the magic of the lights. Make these 2 last times every bit as good as the past 3. You are winners!

Happy and Excited!!!

I am arranging a cast and crew party after school this week on WEDNESDAY. Pizza, cake, and soda will be served to you. You earned this, so try to make this party.

Thank you to all of you for the beautiful mums and cards. I can't wait to plant them and each time I look out and see them bloom, I will remember you and the musical. You folks made magic these last three nights. Thank you again for making the musical so much fun.

Break a Leg all of you actors and actresses!!

3-25-09

Good Wednesday Morning,

Well, here it is-our last practice before the great shows! Can you believe it? Today is FULL DRESS REHEARSAL until 4:45 pm. No makeup is necessary today.

On Thursday( tomorrow!), Friday and Saturday arrive at school by 6pm. The shows start at 7pm.

Makeup, for both girls and boys, is a must for stage as the lights turn you into ghosts without it!
You may apply makeup and have your hair done before you arrive. Your makeup must be stage makeup: Fairly heavy blush and foundation, lipstick and gloss, eye shadow and mascara for girls. Bring in your own makeup for help doing this for the performances and to reapply as needed.
Your hair MUST be off of your face at all times. French braids and ringlets are suggested. Bring in your hairbrush and accessories for help with this from a few BEAUTY SCHOOL STUDENTS coming in to help out for the night performances.

Thoughts:
* The first ensemble song, OPENING FOR A PRINCESS, is the most important one. It sets the tone of the whole show. This tone needs to be confidently done with strong movement, strong voice and strong animations! You need to believe in yourselves so that the audience will believe in the magic of the lights!

**** Ms Wheeler just reported to me that the dressing rooms and her room(backstage) was left in a clean manner. Costumes were hung with care and things were picked up off the floor. She also stated that this rarely happens, so kudos to all of you. This is so important to keep organized so as to be ready for the next performance. I knew all of you could do this - thank you so much.

FUNDRAISERS:
*Snacks for the SNACK SHACK may be brought in on any of the performance nights. If they are ok to keep for a few days, bringing them in on Thursday is a good idea, so we can sell all three days. Most snacks will be sold for $.50 and water for $1 a bottle. The proceeds are going for the cast and crew party on WEDNESDAY, April 1( No fool's day joke!). Thank you for helping us with this fundraiser.
*The bottle drive brought in $13.75. Thank you for those who contributed. This was to offset the cost of fabric.
*Several of the kids came up with their own "fun-raiser"! Check out this as you Leave the show.
*The Best Wishes Notes were a smashing success. Thank you so much. These will make the program a keepsake for your child for years to come.

Mrs Charle McAtee

3-24-09

Good Tuesday Morning,
And time marches on... We got through our first Full Dress Rehearsal with the whole show and it was fairly good. Your hard work is going to be realized this week. Enjoy your time under the lights!

A few observations and thoughts on the practice:
1. Make sure that you allow time for any audience laughter and clapping
2. Come close to the wood to be heard better
3. If you are in the spotlight, wait until the light BEFORE speaking
4. Be confident and Have fun- the audience will believe you

There are a few other items to mention:
1. Cast needs to respect crew members when they come for you backstage
2. Crew needs to stay in your assignment and be ready for your part
3. Ensemble needs to be quieter when moving on and off the stage
4. Cast and crew need to be invisible when on the side stage
5. Cast needs to stay backstage in Ms Wheeler's room unless told to come out
6. Take care of your costume - this is your responsibility

NO PRACTICE TODAY-
There will be a makeup and hair demo as well as folding and stapling programs. This will be in my room A200 after school until 4pm. You will be able to catch the late bus tonight.

PRACTICE on WEDNESDAY:
FULL DRESS for cast and crew after school until 4:45 pm
(This is a change in time)

Performances: March 26,27,28 at 7 pm for public viewing and March 30 for the school
Please arrive at school at 6pm
( you may want to have your makeup on and your hair done at home)

We will be needing snacks for sale during intermission. Please have them wrapped individually in baggies or plastic wrap. Most snacks will be selling for $.50 and water will be $1/bottle.

Thank you to all the parents who lent a hand, picking up kids, making snacks, costume making, prop making, set making, and all the other parts in making this musical happen. Without you and your support, this would not possible. We are all set for coverage Backstage and for Ticket Sales. Your child has a work schedule for you if you did sign up for either of these. I hope having the blog has been a help for both kids and parents. Thank you thank you thank you....
Again, thank you.

3-20-09

Oh Happy Spring,

Yesterday's rehearsal was a mixed bag with some good and some not so good stuff that happened. Some of the good stuff was that you showed up - some of the bad stuff was that not everyone showed up- Attendance is vital NOW and you can't miss the next two rehearsals without a note or call from your parent. Another good thing was the singing - ensemble got to go with Mrs. Wheeler for extra help and the leads are doing a great job- another not so good thing here was that the leads showed up late when it was their time to go on. You must be attentive to when you go on at all times. Lights and sounds effects are coming alone fine, but make sure if you are in a spot light, you do not speak if you are not in the light!

Be confident when you are on stage. Straight posture gives you Stage Presence and strong voice.
Keep on going even if you do make a mistake- no one will know if you don't draw attention to yourself by looking and laughing at your friend, just continue on. If something does drop - continue on -
Look up and out at the audience or clock if necessary. Your feet will follow, so don't worry about that! Believe in yourself and the audience will also. Use your whole face and mouth to show some animation. Enjoy the payoff for all your effort in practicing every performance.

More things that need to be addressed before next week:

Your Behavior must be your best at all times You must be trustworthy so everyone can have some fun with this show.

1. You must be very responsible when you are backstage- EVERY word and sound is heard in the audience. You have the power to make this performance great, so do so.
2. Props are being touched while backstage- NO NO NO - they are fragile and must not be touched- including sitting in the thrones and birdcage and shaking the pom poms.
3. Stay away from the curtains- touching them ripples the entire curtain
4. Be careful of your surroundings and don't touch anything that is not yours.
5. When in Mrs Wheeler's room, Sit or Stand and use whisper voices. Her equipment is not yours to touch or use.
6. Stay in Mrs Wheeler's room until crew member comes in for you.
7. Listen to the adult in the room with you at all times.
8. You are responsible for your costume. Hang it up every time you are done with a rehearsal or performance.

March 23 and 25 will be FULL DRESS REHEARSALS until 5pm- attendance is mandatory.
March 24 is available until 4pm when we will modeling makeup and hair styles for girls and boys. Both boys and girls need to wear heavy stage makeup so you don't look like a ghost with the lights. bring in some makeup- borrow some from moms and sisters if needed.
Girl's need to put your hair in Braids or ringlets - no hair should be in your face -

PERFORMANCES: March 26,27,28 at 7pm - be here at the middle school by 6pm -
March 30 for the school

Tickets are available for $5 - specify which night
Best Wishes are on sale until Monday Morning.

Have a restful weekend, come in on Monday ready to make magic!

Oh Happy Thursday,

Yesterday's dress rehearsal went fairly well especially considering practicing with the sound and lights. Great job with the energy levels. Help out each other with costumes as much as possible. Knights- take note of your boot coverings as many of them were not where they needed to be and I have velcro if you need need with placement.

Costumes are fragile and your responsibility- hang yours up and anything that can't be hung up needs to be in a small bag hooked on the hanger with our name on it. YOU MUST DO THIS EVERY TIME YOU PRACTICE AND PERFORM.

Today after school there is practice for the full cast and crew until 4pm. Next week is the BIG WEEK- Performances are March 26,27,28 at 7pm for public viewing and March 30 for the school. Please be here at 6pm for the night performances.

3-13-09

Good Friday Morning,

There is NO PRACTICE TODAY, FRIDAY- the announcement is wrong. Enjoy your weekend.

We got through the whole musical in an hour and half even with the late start and the stops along the way. We need to keep up with this pace and smooth things out a bit and then we are golden. Thank you for coming and making this work.

A few things about the practice: first of all, we were missing a few people and that always complicates the practice, so make sure you are there to help out. Secondly, kids are still touching the props out back. This is a NO NO as they are flimsy at best and need to be in there correct places, so please stop now. Thirdly, no more gum chewing from cast or crew. Looking from the stage at those who were chewing was not pretty, so no more. Forth thing, Opening for a Princess song needs to be stronger. Several of you were doing a bang up job, but everybody needs to do this and I know you can. Fifth thing, we are working with props now and they need to be in the correct place, so until that happens, we all need to help the crew do this. Sixth and one of the most important items, NO talking at all when you are on the stage to the sides or especially behind the curtains. Please be aware of this fact and do your part to make the magic happen in this musical. And lastly, you ARE doing a nice job making this musical happen, so we need to work on the rough edges to make it better.

As you may have noticed the photographer in the auditorium, he was from the newspaper, American Journal. He took many pictures and is writing up an article to come out this week, so look for it at the stores.

Practice Next Week: ALL practices end at the usual 4pm time.

Oh Happy Sunday,

I am pleased to be getting some comments and questions on this blog.

If there is a snow day on Monday, we can not work on the sets. It would be very disappointing again. I am hoping that the storm does not cancel school for both the practices and work evening. I will post on the blog if the work night is indeed canceled.

I am not sure about the ticket prices as of yet. I will do some research on this and get this information out to parents.

CJ- thank you for letting me know that you are not coming to the work night.

Performances: MARCH 26,27,28 at 7 pm for public and March 30 for the school.

Practice Schedule: Attendance is REQUIRED

2-23-09

Oh happy Monday,

I am sorry to miss this all important day as far as rehearsals go. On Mondays we have 2 practices and we will need to make these up. The other thing was we scheduled a work day on the sets after the practice. We will be making this day up on MONDAY after the rehearsal at 4pm. We need to paint the sets and props and get that set. Please plan on coming and pitching in.

Practice schedule this week:
Tuesday- after school for Ensemble
Wednesday- after school for Full Cast
Thursday- after school for Leads

Costumes should be getting completed. If you are having a hard time with this, let me know and I will get help. Hats for the ladies need to be rings or cone shaped. Decorate as you like to match the dress. Dresses should be ankle length with sleeves if possible. If you have a prom dress, you will need to cover your arms with sleeves added to your dress or make a cape to cover. There is help with this - please ask.
Knights need a tunic, solid long sleeve shirt, and black sweat pants or jeans, leggings or tights. The tunic is a length of fabric(velvet or satins or whatever) that is folded in half with a hole cut out for the head. No need to sew up the sides as it should be tied together with a belt or rope. The length should be above the knee - front and back. You may want to decorate the front panel with some sort of medieval look.

2-19-09

Happy Thursday,

What a fantastic workday we had yesterday. Linda Townsend, Zack Brown, Jake Brown, Jordan Smith and I spent several hours building and completing sets. The bed is covered, the balcony is done, the thrones are fairly done, and a few older props were dismantled. Then the Profenno's stopped in to work on the bird cage. Mr Profenno had the slats cut and painted and got busy with the finishing touches to the set. Jenna, Marcia and I continued on with paints, thrones and cleanup. WOW! We are well underway with most of the sets. The biggest thank you to each of you as you were so helpful.

MONDAY after practice we will be painting the sets and getting to most of the props. We still need you to help out as many hands make light work. There is loads more to do before showtime, so please plan on coming in around 4 ish and pitch in for a bit. Thank you so much.

PERFORMANCES: March 26,27,28 at 7 pm for public viewing and March 30 for the middle school.

Good Wednesday Morning,

What a fantastic turnout from the ENSEMBLE. This shows great team work on your part in making this musical the best it can be. Congratulations to you for this commitment and effort. You are certainly earning the applause you will get show nights.

Yesterday we moved along at a brisk pace. We reviewed Opening for a Princess, Shy and Swamps of Home. Steps are cleaning up and taking shape. We do need to add one or two steps into Shy, but all in all, the three ENSEMBLE parts are coming along nicely. The new dance, THE SPANISH PANIC, is a real collaboration of teamwork with all of the ideas streaming from you folks. I am amazed how much you are putting into this dance scene. You moved mountains on this show stopper. Great job. Remember to practice all of the parts while moving!!!

We really got down the blocking of Opening for a Princess, rehearsed the lyrics to the song and we are getting ready to put these all together with movement! Wow. With all this on the agenda, we need to make sure that we attend all the practices available.

Positions for Knights in Shinning Armor and Ladies in Waiting are closing this coming Monday. So if you are planning on joining the musical or know of someone who does, Monday is the deadline.

Rules for the practices are:
1. After school practices start at 2:30
2. You must stay outside of the auditorium until I arrive to let you in
3. Snacks and drinks are to be eaten and drank OUTSIDE the auditorium before 2:30 pm
4. You may bring in your homework to work on during idle times of practice
5. Limit your bathroom breaks
6. ABSOLUTELY NO EATING IN THE AUDITORIUM so there will be no more crumbs for the ants
7. Check in for attendance
8. Sit in the lower seats.
9. Give your best effort
10. Have fun
